2026-10-16: NAS editable — all NAS edits allowed, canonical root stays on the mini

2026-10-16: NAS editable — all NAS edits allowed, canonical root stays on the mini

Status: settled (per Ian, confirmed in the Archivist chat).

Rule

  • All NAS edits are allowed now.
  • The single canonical root stays AIMacMini:~/projects. That does not change: NAS is editable, but it is not the canonical root, and Foreman still monitors only ~/projects and does not read the NAS mirror for Index.

How this was decided

  • 2026-10-16 12:04 AM CT: Ian approved the narrow exception — PROJECTS.md and ACTIVITY.md writes allowed under /Volumes/nas/projects, rest backup-only (decisions/2026-10-16-nas-foreman-exception.md).
  • 2026-10-16 7:30 PM CT, in the Archivist chat, Ian said verbatim: 'You can edit to NAS.'
  • 2026-10-16 ~7:31 PM CT: Warden reported Ian had confirmed in Warden's chat to widen the rule to all NAS edits, canonical root staying AIMacMini:~/projects, and that Warden saved it superseding the narrow exception.
  • 2026-10-16 8:04 PM CT: Ian confirmed in the Archivist chat (answering the question widget) that all NAS edits are allowed now, canonical root stays AIMacMini:~/projects.

The widened rule supersedes the narrow PROJECTS.md/ACTIVITY.md-only exception. Source: Ian in the Archivist chat, 2026-10-16 8:04 PM CT; earlier Warden report, 2026-10-16 ~7:31 PM CT.

Profile update

2026-10-16 8:52 PM CT: Improve My Bots updated Foreman's live profile NAS clause only (NAS edits allowed generally, canonical AIMacMini:/projects, protected sections kept) and reported a fresh smoke Index. Archivist re-read the live profile and updated bots/foreman.md; the earlier "profile lags docs" note is closed.
